Hồ Village Communal House

Hồ Village Communal House is one of the prominent historical sites in Hồng Kỳ village (formerly Hồ village), Thọ Thanh commune, Thường Xuân district, Thanh Hóa province. Located on a spacious and elevated area in the center of the village, Hồ Village Communal House was built when the village was first established. Visitors to the site can feel the peaceful, warm atmosphere of a traditional Vietnamese rural village. Notably, near the communal house stands an ancient tree that is hundreds of years old, still standing strong through time, bearing witness to the many historical ups and downs.

According to oral stories passed down by the elders of the village and recorded in the book “Làng Hồ xưa, thôn Hồng Kỳ nay” (Old Hồ Village, now Hồng Kỳ Village), the Hồ Village Communal House honors two local deities, Thành Hoàng, named Lê Phúc Chân and Lê Phúc Trực. These two men, originally from Phủ Thanh Hóa, arrived during the reign of King Trần Duệ Tông in the year Quý Sửu (1373). The two brothers, Lê Phúc Chân and Lê Phúc Trực, crossed the Chu River and arrived at Ngọc Bối, an area with beautiful natural landscapes and fertile land surrounded by rolling hills. Here, they cleared the land, established a settlement, and developed the region, forming a sustainable community. According to local historical records, in 1478, during the reign of King Lê Thánh Tông, Lê Phúc Thành, a descendant of the Lê family, took the imperial exams and passed, earning the title of Doctor. Therefore, in addition to honoring Lê Phúc Chân and Lê Phúc Trực for founding the village, the people of Hồ village also worship Lê Phúc Thành, a local scholar and official.

With its long history and architecture that reflects strong cultural marks, Hồ Village Communal House was recognized as a provincial architectural art relic in 2013. It is not only a place of worship for the local deities but also a symbol of the enduring cultural traditions and folk beliefs of the local people.
