Situated in Hoằng Tiến Commune, Hoằng Hóa District, Thanh Hóa Province, the Temple of Tô Hiến Thành is a significant historical and cultural landmark, dedicated to honoring the brilliant general who devoted his entire life to the prosperity of the Lý Dynasty. Tô Hiến Thành, born on the 22nd of the first lunar month in the year Nhâm Ngọ (1102) and passing away on the 12th of June in the year Kỷ Hợi (1179), hailed from Hạ Mỗ village, Đan Phượng district, Hà Tây province (now part of Hanoi). He was the son of Phủ Doãn Tràng An Tô Trung and Nguyễn Thị Đoan. Known for his exceptional intelligence and quick wit from a young age, Tô Hiến Thành received a comprehensive education in both literature and martial arts, becoming a master of both. In 1138, he distinguished himself in the Mậu Ngọ examination, earning the top position as Thái Học Sinh. Throughout his career, Tô Hiến Thành served as a distinguished statesman and military general under two kings—Lý Anh Tông and Lý Cao Tông—where his wisdom and leadership were instrumental in shaping the governance of the country, contributing significantly to its economic, political, cultural, and military affairs.
