Tien Pagoda (Mau Nam) is an ancient pagoda built in 1931-1932 at the end of the Nguyen Dynasty. It is located in Nga An Commune, Nga Son District, Thanh Hoa Province. Although Tien Pagoda has only existed for nearly 100 years, its physical presence has followed the natural cycle of prosperity, decline, and renewal in the ever-changing flow of time. Restoring the cultural values of this pagoda, a scenic landmark that has long been cherished through legends and poetry, is an essential task for the generations of today and tomorrow. The cultural relic of Tien Pagoda covers a total area of 66,700 m², situated on elevated land, front faces northeast, overlooking vast rice fields and crops, while the back faces west, nestled against the Nha Ba Mountain range. At the top of Nha Ba Mountain, there is a large natural stone table known as the "Tien Chessboard." From the mountaintop, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the lake and the pagoda below. Tien Pagoda - The Ancient Pagoda with Historical Significance

Tien Pagoda, also known by its formal name Mau Nam Pagoda, is located in Nga An commune, Nga Son district, Thanh Hoa province. It is a place with beautiful and scenic landscapes, nestled by mountains, with pure and fresh air that brings a peaceful, meditative atmosphere. According to an old legend, this place used to have a large garden of peach and peony flowers, closely tied to the peach garden festival and the legendary story of Tu Thuc meeting the fairy Giang Huong, which is both poetic and charming.

Behind Tien Pagoda (to the west) is the mountain range of Nha Ba. 

The pagoda was rebuilt in 1936 in the architectural style of the Nguyen dynasty, with a vaulted structure for both the front hall and the inner sanctuary. The roof is covered with regular flat tiles. The three entrances are also designed in an arch style. Tien Pagoda currently worships both Buddha and Mother Goddesses, one being the most popular religion in Vietnam, and the other being a belief deeply rooted in the spiritual life of the Vietnamese people for centuries. The road leading to the pagoda is flanked by two rows of 70-year-old longan trees, which adds to the ancient charm of Tien Pagoda.

Every year, the traditional festival of Tien Pagoda is held on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of the third lunar month. Tien Pagoda is surrounded by the Tam Diep mountain range, creating a picturesque and sacred landscape. The connection between the Tam Diep mountains and Tien Pagoda can be considered one of the most beautiful scenic areas in Nga Son.

Due to its historical, cultural, and religious significance, as well as its stunning natural beauty, in 1982, Tien Pagoda was recognized by the Thanh Hoa Department of Culture and Information as a provincial historical and cultural site. In 2002, Tien Pagoda was officially recognized as a national historical and cultural monument under Decision No. 39/2002/QD-BVHTT on December 30, 2002, by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism). In 2019, Tien Pagoda was recognized as a provincial tourist destination according to Decision No. 108/QD-UBND dated January 7, 2019.

Outside the front hall is the main veranda (2.10m x 10.20m), while the Tien Duong (front hall) measures 3.80m x 10.20m, and the Hau Cung (main sanctuary) is 4.80m long and 2.5m wide. The front facade is connected to a three-story bell tower. With this architectural design, the pagoda appears grand, harmonious, and well-balanced from a distance. In addition to the main pagoda, there is also the Mau Temple, built in a similar arched style with curved tiles, located next to the pagoda. The pathway leading to the pagoda is lined with two rows of 70-year-old longan trees, adding to the ancient atmosphere of Tien Pagoda.

The architecture of the pagoda imitates the style of the late Nguyen Dynasty, but is also profoundly influenced by European church architecture, which emerged during the French missionary activities in the late 19th century. This influence was quite common during this period. However, the pagoda still preserves the essence of traditional Vietnamese folk religious architecture, creating a unique characteristic specific to the Nga Son region in Thanh Hoa.
