Bao An Pagoda - Historical and cultural relics of Vinh Loc land

Bao An Pagoda, located in Vinh Hung commune, Vinh Loc district, Thanh Hoa province, is one of the ancient and sacred pagodas of the land of Thanh. With a history of hundreds of years, the pagoda is not only a place to send the spiritual life of the people but also preserves many unique cultural, architectural and historical values.

Located in the middle of a peaceful village space, Bao An Pagoda appears as a special highlight, both close and majestic. The charming natural scenery and ancient architecture of the pagoda create a pure and ideal space for visitors to find after the chaos of life.

Bao An Pagoda was built during the Le Trung Hung Dynasty (XVII - XVIII centuries), a period when Buddhism played an important role in the spiritual life of the Dai Viet people. The name "Bao An" means gratitude for precious things, a reminder for people to live ethically, grateful for the good values in life.

Going through many historical events, Bao An Pagoda has been restored and expanded many times. Under the Nguyen dynasty, the pagoda was renovated on a larger scale, adding many ancillary structures such as the ancestral church, guest house, and pagoda garden. Although it has been repaired many times, the pagoda still retains its inherent ancient and sacred features.

During the period of resistance against France and the United States, Bao An Pagoda was also a shelter for revolutionary soldiers, becoming a symbol of the spirit of solidarity and patriotism of the people of Vinh Loc region.

Bao An Pagoda is imbued with traditional Vietnamese architecture with a harmonious layout, closely associated with the surrounding nature. The main works of the pagoda include:

Tam Quan:  Tam Quan Gate is built of wood and stone, designed in the style of curved tile roof, exquisitely carved with dragon and phoenix motifs. The three paths of the Three Pavilions represent the three doors to enlightenment in Buddhism.

Main Hall: The main hall is the central space of the pagoda, designed with three large halls. In the middle of the hall worship the statue of Buddha Shakyamuni, next to it are statues of Bodhisattvas such as Guan The Yin and the Land Organ. The statues are made of bronze or wood, painted with gold lipstick, showing the sculptural skills of the ancient artisans. The ceiling of the main hall is made of ironwood, carved with lotus paintings, clouds and sky, creating harmony and dignity.

Ancestral Residence: The Ancestral House is a place to worship the high monks who have been abbots at the pagoda, and at the same time preserves ancient posts and sutras. This space is bold with tradition with diaphragms, couplets written in Chinese characters, showing respect for the predecessors.

Pagoda yard and grounds: The large pagoda yard is paved with red tiles, with many trees shining shade. The pagoda garden is carefully cared for, with Buddha statues placed along the path and a small lotus pond, creating a pure meditation space.
