Cẩm Temple – A Serene Beauty by the Gentle River

Cẩm Temple, located in Cẩm Trướng 2 village, Định Công commune (Yên Định), is a place dedicated to the worship of the Holy Mother Bạch Hoa. The temple lies at the foot of the Voi Mountain range, facing the Cầu Chày River, approximately 1 kilometer from the Bông intersection. Visitors to Cẩm Temple not only find tranquility but also immerse themselves in the serene beauty of the surrounding landscape, with the peaceful Cầu Chày River flowing gently during the dry season and becoming more powerful during the flood season.

Cẩm Temple

According to legend, during the reign of King Trần Thánh Tông (1258-1278), the village of Cẩm Trướng 2, Định Công commune faced natural disasters and epidemics that caused great hardship for the local people. In the village lived a couple, Mr. Hoàng Trung and Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Phương, who were financially comfortable and often helped families in need. Though married for a long time, they were unable to have children. After much discussion, the couple decided to set up an altar to pray to the heavens for a child. After preparing the offerings for the ceremony, they performed the ritual. On the third night, Mrs. Phương dreamt of a large golden dragon transforming into a pheasant, flying into their home and brushing past her bed. Upon waking, she felt a strange sensation in her body, and soon after, she became pregnant with a daughter. The baby girl, named Bạch Hoa, was born with red lips, snow-white skin, and sparkling eyes. As she grew, Bạch Hoa became exceptionally beautiful, intelligent, gentle, and dedicated herself to helping the poor in the village. Since her birth, natural disasters ceased, the crops were abundant, and the people in the village lived prosperous and happy lives.

At the age of 21, Bạch Hoa went on a boat trip to enjoy the river's beauty. However, a heavy rainstorm and strong winds capsized her boat, sweeping her away. Several days later, her body was found floating along the river. The villagers retrieved her body, performed a funeral ceremony, and erected a shrine to honor her along the banks of the Cầu Chày River in Cẩm Trướng 2 village. This shrine would later become known as Cẩm Temple.

The Temple to the Holy Mother Bạch Hoa

Cẩm Temple is one of the most ancient sites in the region's historical landscape. Every year, on the 10th day of the first lunar month, which marks Bạch Hoa's birthday, and on the 13th day of the 6th lunar month, the day of her death, Định Công commune holds festivals and memorial ceremonies to honor the Holy Mother. Visitors to Cẩm Temple not only enjoy the charming and peaceful landscape but also come to this sacred place to pray for blessings, prosperity, and peace for themselves and their families.
