Description

Khánh Quang Pagoda – A Historic Pagoda Over 400 Years Old

The ancient Khánh Quang Pagoda, also known as Trạch Lâm Pagoda, is located in Quang Trung commune, Bỉm Sơn town, Thanh Hóa province. It is a provincial-level historical and cultural heritage site. This ancient pagoda, which symbolizes national culture, was constructed in the 17th century by Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Tú, the daughter of Đoan Quận công Nguyễn Hoàng. The pagoda is situated near the North-South highway, 5 kilometers from her hometown and 2 kilometers from the Trịnh family's ancestral land. The pagoda is closely associated with the love story between Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Tú and Lord Trịnh Tráng, and it also holds the historical presence of two famous monks, Chuyết Chuyết and Minh Hành, who once served as abbots here. After undergoing numerous historical changes, Khánh Quang Pagoda has now been renovated and restored, becoming a spiritual destination and a historical site for many visitors.

Tam Quan Gate of Khánh Quang Pagoda

The architecture of Khánh Quang Pagoda is designed in the traditional style, consisting of the main structures: Tam Quan gate, front hall, ancestral hall, and upper sanctum. Additionally, the pagoda includes rooms for monks, a guest house, kitchen, and lecture hall, forming a large yet harmonious and refined architectural complex. The architecture showcases intricate craftsmanship and a deep connection to traditional cultural values. The dominant colors of gold, red, and green give the pagoda a timeless, solemn, and elegant beauty.

Over 400 years of history, Khánh Quang Pagoda has left a lasting impression on generations of people. After being destroyed by war, cultural changes, and time's passage, the pagoda was rebuilt on a large scale, near the old pagoda site, thanks to the generosity of locals and Buddhist followers. The pagoda stands as a cultural and spiritual monument for future generations, bringing happiness and peace to the local Buddhist community and helping to preserve the cultural and spiritual heritage of the region.

A Corner of Khánh Quang Pagoda

With its great values, Khánh Quang Pagoda was recognized as a tourist destination by the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa Province under Decision No. 221/QD-UBND dated January 14, 2019.
