Unlocking the Tourism Potential of Muon Waterfall

28/08/2026
Nestled amid the mountains and forests of Dien Quang Commune, Muon Waterfall is likened to a “green gem,” boasting pristine beauty and a rich natural ecosystem. Despite its outstanding advantages for developing ecotourism and experiential tourism, the destination’s potential has yet to be fully and effectively tapped.

Muon Waterfall lies hidden amid lush green mountains and forests.

Located at an altitude of nearly 500 meters above sea level, Muon Waterfall captivates visitors with its pristine natural landscape, cool climate, and a cluster of 43 waterfalls of various sizes cascading one after another through the forested mountains.

The area is also home to three natural caves, offering an exciting setting for exploration for visitors who enjoy outdoor experiences and discovering the wonders of nature.

Beyond its scenic beauty, Muon Waterfall also benefits from its strategic location along a route connecting it with several well-known tourist destinations in Thanh Hoa, including Cam Luong Fish Stream, Pu Luong Nature Reserve, and a number of community-based tourism sites in the western mountainous region of the province.

This connectivity provides favorable conditions for developing interconnected tours and travel routes, enhancing the destination’s appeal to visitors from Thanh Hoa and beyond.

Hoang Thi Xuan, a visitor to Muon Waterfall, said: “The air here is very fresh, and the stream water is clear and cool. It is an ideal place for families to visit, unwind and relax during the summer.”

Despite its considerable potential and existing advantages, tourism development at Muon Waterfall still faces a number of limitations. Visitors are mainly local tourists or small independent groups. There are currently no large-scale accommodation or resort facilities, while distinctive tourism products and comprehensive services that could encourage longer stays have yet to be developed. Experiential activities also remain largely spontaneous and have not yet been professionally organized to create lasting appeal.

In reality, tourism development at Muon Waterfall currently relies largely on its existing natural assets. However, to become an attractive destination on Thanh Hoa’s tourism map, the locality needs comprehensive solutions in terms of planning, infrastructure, services, and investment attraction.

Recognizing both the destination’s potential and existing shortcomings, Dien Quang Commune has recently developed a plan for the development of the Muon Waterfall tourism area, covering nearly 150 hectares and connecting with the Duong Coc Lake area to create an integrated space for tourism development.

According to the local development orientation, tourism development will go hand in hand with the conservation of natural landscapes, the protection of the ecosystem, and efforts to prevent the emergence of spontaneous tourism sites that could undermine the area’s pristine beauty.

The locality is also actively promoting and calling for capable investors to participate in developing high-quality tourism products that align with sustainable development goals.

Trinh Van Dung, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dien Quang Commune, said: “Two investors have already surveyed the Muon Waterfall planning area and proposed investment projects. The locality will create every favorable condition to attract dedicated investors at the earliest opportunity, contributing to sustainable tourism development.”

With proper investment and effective development, the area could become not only an ideal destination for nature lovers but also create opportunities for local employment and higher incomes, contributing to socio-economic development in the years ahead.
