According to local legends and historical documents, Ngoc Chau Pagoda was built during the Le Dynasty in the 15th century and has undergone numerous restorations to maintain its ancient charm. It is said that the pagoda was erected on a sacred land, a harmonious convergence of mountains and rivers, regarded as the "dragon vein" of the Cam Thuy region.

The name "Ngoc Chau" means "precious pearl," symbolizing the local people's reverence for the pagoda and its significant spiritual role in the community.

Unique Architecture Amidst Nature

Ngoc Chau Pagoda stands out with its traditional Northern Vietnamese architectural style, blending Buddhist aesthetics with local folk art. Surrounded by lush green mountains, the pagoda creates a breathtaking and tranquil landscape.

  • The Three-Gate Entrance (Tam Quan) is a sturdy structure with curved roofs, symbolizing the three paths to enlightenment: Past, Present, and Future.

  • The Main Hall (Chinh Dien) is a solemn space housing statues of Buddha Shakyamuni, Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, and the Dharma Protector. Inside, visitors can admire intricately carved wooden and marble statues.

  • The Ancestral Hall (Nha To), located behind the Main Hall, honors the monks who have contributed to the preservation and development of the pagoda over generations.

A notable feature of the pagoda is the ancient bodhi tree that has stood for centuries, offering shade year-round and symbolizing the pagoda's longevity and prosperity.
