Mây Waterfall is located in Đăng Thượng Village, Thạch Lâm Commune, Thạch Thành District, about 45 km from the center of Kim Tân town and 100 km northwest of Thanh Hóa city. It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Thanh Hoa due to its majestic appearance, which leaves anyone in awe, eager to witness its grandeur. 
 

The Majestic Mây Waterfall

True to its name, Mây Waterfall cascades in layers, from one level to another, making visitors feel amazed from afar. The waterfall spans over 200 meters in length, 50 meters in width, and rises more than 80 meters high, with 9 large cascading levels naturally stacked like terraced rice fields. The surrounding area is lush with greenery. From a distance, the waterfall looks like a white silk ribbon, gently flowing in curves, creating a majestic yet poetic scene. A special feature of this waterfall is that it is not slippery, making it easy to walk around.
According to the legend of the Mường people living here, Mây Waterfall was created from the footprints of the fairies. The story tells of 9 fairies who, while flying over the waterfall, stopped to bathe. While bathing, they were ordered by the Jade Emperor to return to the heavens immediately. In their haste to return to the sky, the fairies left their footprints on the waterfall, creating the 9 levels of water from high to low.
The Mường people believe that couples who bathe together at the waterfall will become husband and wife. Hence, the waterfall is also known as the "Waterfall of 9 Levels of Love." 

Local Population Near Mây Waterfall

Mây Waterfall flows year-round, but it is most beautiful from August onwards. It is best to visit during sunny days to see the clear water, which flows continuously day and night. The forest in the Mây Waterfall Scenic Area is a protected primary forest, home to many rare animal species and a diverse ecosystem.
With its natural, pristine beauty, visitors can feel the complete harmony of nature with trees, mountains, waterfalls, and caves. One can experience the grandeur of the waterfall, enjoy the fresh air, and explore the natural beauty of the area.

Visitors can also participate in local activities to understand the native culture. The people here are 100% Mường ethnic minorities who still preserve their traditional culture, such as cooking rice, carrying water, building elevated houses, roasting pigs, and other special culinary delights like river fish, hillside chicken, Mường pork, and wild vegetables. Traditional folk games such as "đánh mảng," "ném còn," "cây đu," "hát Xường," and "nhảy sạp" are also popular. The locals wear traditional Mường dresses and speak the Mường language. When visiting, tourists can also purchase souvenirs like Mường brocade items and herbal medicines prescribed by local herbalists.

With its stunning natural scenery, unique refreshing waterfall, and the rich cultural heritage of the Mường people, Mây Waterfall is a must-visit destination in Thanh Hoa. Given its beauty and potential, on October 1, 2019, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa Province recognized Mây Waterfall as an official tourist site in the province.
