Ngọc Mountain - National Revolutionary Historical Site

Ngọc Mountain (also known as Châu Phong Mountain or Nít Mountain) located opposite the Dragon Mountain range at the foot of the Hàm Rồng Bridge on the northern bank of the Mã River, in Tào Xuyên Ward, Thanh Hóa City, is a significant landmark. The Đông Sơn Mountain range (also known as Trướng Mountain) consists of 99 peaks, a blend of earth and rock, stretching from Dương Xá village (also called Giảng village) and winding along the Mã River in the shape of a sacred dragon.

Ngọc Mountain is an integral part of the Hàm Rồng Mountain range, situated within a vast natural landscape where the Mã River winds around the towering peaks. The shape of Ngọc Mountain is striking, with layers of stone stacked upon each other, forming a massive stone wall that rises high, resembling a blazing fire amidst the natural surroundings. This is an ideal location for visitors to enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding area, including the majestic Hàm Rồng Mountain, Quyết Thắng Hill, and the Hàm Rồng Bridge, all set within an expansive and open space.

During the years of the U.S. bombing campaigns, at the foot of Jade Mountain was the garrison of the heroic 19/5 Bridge Team. This was the "front line" of the martyr workers, who, alongside the air defense forces, safeguarded the bridge's integrity and ensured the defense of the vital lifeline across the Mã River. In 1965, the peak of Jade Mountain became the site of a machine gun post manned by three young soldiers, who resolutely held their position, fighting a life-or-death battle against American aircraft with the firm declaration "We are determined to complete our mission, to fight until our last breath in order to annihilate the enemy."

With its profound historical significance and majestic natural scenery, Ngọc Mountain is an essential destination in the journey to explore Thanh Hóa. Not only does it captivate visitors with its stunning landscape of mountains and rivers, but Ngọc Mountain also serves as a site for historical and revolutionary education, helping the younger generation gain a deeper understanding of the immense sacrifices made by previous generations in the struggle to protect the independence and freedom of the nation.
