Nestled at the confluence of the Chu and Ma Rivers, surrounded by fertile fields, thriving villages, expansive alluvial plains, lush forests, and boats navigating the waterways in both directions, Vồm Pagoda lies at the foot of Bàn A Mountain in Thiệu Khánh Commune (Thanh Hóa City), adding a poetic touch to a landscape that is as vibrant and dynamic as it is serene.

Bàn A Mountain is a renowned natural landmark in Thanh Hoa, famous for its striking shape and beautiful colors. It is composed of two peaks, Vồm Mountain and Bằng Trình Mountain. This area is steeped in legend, particularly the mythological tale of the battle between Ông Vồm, a legendary figure in ancient Thanh Hoa known for his extraordinary strength, who is said to have dug rivers, built mountains, and established villages, and Ông Bưng, or Lê Phụng Hiểu, a distinguished scholar of the Lý Dynasty who became mythologized by the locals.

Standing atop the peak of Bàn A Mountain, one can cast their gaze far and wide, freely admiring the peaceful and prosperous villages below.

Vồm Pagoda (also known as Đại Hùng Pagoda) was built at the foot of Bàn A Mountain in the year Quang Thuận (1460) during the reign of King Lê Thánh Tông. The pagoda is nestled against a rocky mountain, sheltered by the mountain range and layers of lush green trees, creating a serene, tranquil space with an aura of mystery and untamed beauty.
