A Cultural and Revolutionary History Heritage

Vĩnh Thái Pagoda is located in the village of Yên Thái, Hoàng Giang Commune, Nông Cống District, Thanh Hóa Province. This ancient pagoda, established in the late 16th century, sits beside the majestic Hoàng Nghiêu mountain range. It occupies a spacious area and is renowned as a scenic landmark, a place of favorable feng shui, and a witness to significant events in the struggle for national liberation.

The pagoda was built in the 16th century by Mạc Đăng Khuê, a person from Bắc Hà, who came to this land, established the village of Thổ Ngõa, and constructed the pagoda. Its architectural design follows the "Tam" character structure, consisting of the main hall, the central sanctuary, and the rear sanctuary. In addition to its spiritual and cultural significance, Vĩnh Thái Pagoda also holds particular importance in the history of the revolution.

Due to wars and natural disasters, the pagoda suffered significant damage. However, with the attention of the local government and generous contributions from philanthropists, it has been restored and preserved, continuing to serve as a spiritual center for the community. Notably, the pagoda was a secret meeting place for revolutionary leaders before the August Revolution of 1945. Between 1930 and 1945, Vĩnh Thái Pagoda served as a revolutionary base for the districts of Nông Cống and Thọ Xuân, and as a communication hub for the Central Party Committee of the Central Region. From 1939 to 1941, comrade Nguyễn Văn Linh (the late General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam) visited Vĩnh Thái Pagoda to meet and discuss with revolutionary soldiers in Thanh Hóa. In the pagoda's visitor book, comrade Nguyễn Văn Linh wrote: “In 1939, I was assigned by General Secretary Nguyễn Văn Cử to return to Central Vietnam to rebuild the Central Party Committee. During this time, from 1939 to 1941, I worked in Thanh Hóa and Nghệ An, meeting with local revolutionaries and visited Vĩnh Thái Pagoda to hold discussions with comrades in Thanh Hóa.”

As a revolutionary base, Vĩnh Thái Pagoda was not only a venue for political activities but also served as a safe haven for revolutionary cadres. It was a point of connection for spreading revolutionary ideas during the resistance period. Therefore, Vĩnh Thái Pagoda is not just a cultural monument, but also an important historical witness, marking the revolutionary sacrifices and patriotic spirit of past generations.

Scenic space, where people come to find solace

Vĩnh Thái Pagoda is not only a sacred place of worship but also a significant site in educating future generations about the love for the nation. It stands as a testament to the integration of spiritual culture and revolutionary history, helping to raise public awareness of the national liberation struggle.
