The Great Saint - Lê Uy Trần Khát Chân was an outstanding general at the end of the Lý dynasty, who made great contributions in repelling the Champa forces, protecting the borders, and ensuring the security of the country. He sacrificed his life at the upper section of Đông Sơn, Đông Sơn district (now part of Thanh Hóa city) in a fierce battle. In honor of his contributions, the local people built a temple in his memory, which has become a sacred place for worship and to honor the heroic deeds of this general. In the year Tân Hợi (1251), King Trần Thái Tông granted him the title "Upper-ranking Prosperity Deity," and also moved the temple to the foot of Yên Ngựa Mountain in the ancient village of Đông Sơn, Hàm Rồng Ward, Thanh Hóa city today."
