The temple honors Le Lam, one of the generals who had many contributions during the reign of King Le Thanh Tong. He was bestowed the title of Tả Bộc xạ Binh Bộ Thượng Thư (Left Assistant Minister, Grand Secretary of the Ministry of War), Đô úy Phò mã Lương Quốc công (Major General, Prince Consort Lương, Duke of the Nation.). His greatest achievement was helping the king suppress the Bồn Man rebels who had been causing disturbances in the western region of Đại Việt. After serving as a high-ranking official, he retired to live in his homeland, where the king assigned him to manage a vast area in western Thanh Hoa. When he passed away, he was buried in Dong Tre (Phung Giao Commune). The king issued an edict for the people to build a temple in his honor in Tiến Dực (now Phung Giao Commune). The temple was built around the 16th century using jackfruit wood and roofed with fish-scale tiles. The main hall, which originally had three rooms, no longer exists. In 1995, the local people raised funds to rebuild the temple on its original site, covering an area of 1,000m².

Currently, the temple consists of two rooms built in a simple traditional style, with 12 wooden columns and 3 beams, covering an area of 20m². The temple also preserves many ancient artifacts such as family genealogies, royal decrees, a dragon throne, a wine tray, temple feet, bronze gongs, and stone incense burners. Visitors can also explore other famous landmarks nearby, such as the temple of Goddess Cham, the Tep Temple, the Lam Kinh National Special Historical Site, Ban Bu Cave, and Ngan Hang Cave.

Le Lam Temple features traditional architecture, simple yet solemn, harmoniously blending with the surrounding natural landscape. The tranquil space of the temple is an ideal place for visitors to worship, learn about history, and pray for good fortune. Every year, during festivals, many locals and tourists come to the temple to offer incense and express their reverence for the national hero.

Le Lam Temple is not only a spiritual site but also a place for educating patriotism and preserving national cultural heritage. It is a meaningful destination for those who want to learn about the history and cultural heritage of the heroic Thanh Hoa region. The temple was officially recognized as a provincial historical and cultural monument on January 28, 2004, under Decision No. 315/QD-UBND.
