The Path to Long Quang Cave

This place is not only a famous tourist destination but also closely associated with distinctive historical and cultural values, especially the victory at Hàm Rồng Bridge during the resistance against America.

The Path to the Cave

The cave is located in the center, running through the two sides of the Dragon's Head mountain, precisely at the position of the Dragon's eyes. The cave; therefore, is also known as the Dragon Eye Cave. The cave's entrance faces both the northeast and southwest. The right eye looks towards the southwest, which was once Hạc Thành and is now Thanh Hóa City, while the left eye looks towards the northeast, overlooking the vast plains of Thanh Hóa.

The Dragon Eye Cave Entrance

From Long Quang Cave, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Dragon Mountain, the Mã River, and Hàm Rồng Bridge. From here, across the Mã River, visitors can see Nít Mountain (also known as Ngọc Mountain), which is linked to a local rhyme from the Hàm Rồng area: 'Ninety-nine peaks to the east, but Nít Mountain by the river has not yet returned...'. Inside the cave, the width is about 5 meters, the height is over 10 meters, and the length is around 30 meters. With such height, the cave maintains a cool and fresh atmosphere year-round. The cave also captivates visitors with legends about Dragon Mountain, the Green Dragon, and the Sacred Horse...

The View from the Historic Hàm Rồng Tourist Area

Long Quang Cave has long been a special attraction for various poets and scholars, including Nguyễn Trãi, Lê Thánh Tông, Lê Hiến Tông, Cao Bá Quát, and Phạm Sư Mạnh. On the rock walls inside the cave, numerous Chinese poems from the Later Lê period still remain, praising the scenic beauty of Dragon Mountain and the Mã River.

One of the poems on the cave walls.

The poem left by our ancestors.

During the period of American bombardment of Hàm Rồng Bridge, Long Quang Cave also served as the headquarters for Division 3 of the Hàm Rồng Armed Police. At the same time, the cave was also a place for first aid for soldiers who were wounded by bombs and bullets in the battles defending Hàm Rồng Bridge
