Description

Na Shrine - A Must-Visit Destination for Spiritual Enthusiasts

Na Shrine (also known as Na Son Dong Shrine) is located in Xuan Du Commune, Như Thanh District, Thanh Hoa Province. It is a well-known spiritual relic site in the province and neighboring regions, with a long history dating back to ancient times. The site is associated with the uprising led by the heroine Triệu Thị Trinh to drive out the Eastern Wu invaders (in 248 AD). The area is renowned for its picturesque scenery, including streams, forests of decades-old pine trees, and a revolutionary base established during the resistance wars, all of which combine to make Na Son Dong Shrine a captivating place.

Na Shrine

Na Shrine is situated in a valley at the foot of Mount Nua. The terrain is relatively complex, comprising mountains, hills, streams, cultivated land, and basic construction sites. The entire area slopes from south to north, with the historical relic complex located deep within the valley. As one ventures further into the mountain, the natural landscape becomes increasingly breathtaking, imbued with deep local meaning, resembling a picturesque scene that few places can offer. The topography here has been naturally shaped by nature, enhanced by the efforts of humans, creating an awe-inspiring environment that evokes both contemplation and reverence. From the mountain peak, an underground water source emerges, flowing through pine-covered hills and rocky crevices, forming a small stream that flows continuously, day and night, never running dry. This is often called the "Sacred Water Stream," with its never-ending flow.

Na Shrine is a complex of relics, which includes various temples arranged from the main entrance (from outside to inside) as follows:

  • Trinh Temple– Temple of Lady Ba (Female General Nàng Ba)
  • Duc Ong Temple – Temple of Triệu Quốc Đạt (Brother of Lady Triệu)
  • The Queen Mother of the World Temple – Main central temple (Worshiping Lady Triệu)
  • Hoang Temple – Temple of the 12 Hoang Officials (Worshiping Lý Hoàng and the Lý family)
  • Lady Chín Temple – Princess Thượng Ngàn Temple (Worshiping Female General Nguyễn Thị Liễu)
  • Great Saint Tản Viên Temple – Open-air temple (Worshiping military commanders)
  • Stone Platform and Nine Sacred Wells along the stream from Lady Chín Temple leading up to the mountain.

Duc Ong Temple

Although the temples are not large in scale, each one has its own unique architectural style and religious significance. Each temple serves a specific role within the complex. The temples, constructed long ago, have weathered the ups and downs of nature and history, experiencing periods of prosperity and decline. However, they have always been preserved and maintained thanks to the dedication and admiration of the local people and communities, continuing to exist to this day. With its values, Na Shrine has been recognized as a tourist destination by the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa Province in Decision No. 15/QD-UBND dated January 2, 2019.

However, what stands out and encompasses everything is the Mother worship ceremony: Mau Thuong Ngan, Ba Trieu, and Lieu Hanh Princess.

Na Son is the highest peak in the Nua mountain range. What is special about it is that from the summit, which stands 550 meters high, a clear spring flows continuously day and night. Visitors who come to offer incense and enjoy the scenery often take the water back with them as a token of good luck.
