The Historical and Artistic Architectural Relic of Lam Kinh - The Ancient Imperial Capital of Thanh Hóa

The Lam Kinh Special National Relic is located in Lam Sơn Town, Thọ Xuân District, approximately 50 kilometers northwest of Thanh Hóa City. This is the ancestral homeland of the Lê Dynasty – the birthplace of the national hero Lê Lợi, who led the glorious Lam Sơn Uprising in the 15th century, driving out the Minh invaders and restoring independence to the nation.

The Lam Kinh Special National Relic is constructed following the “backed by the mountain, facing the water” principle, with its back resting against Dầu Mountain and its front facing the Chu River and Chúa Mountain. To the left lies the Phú Lâm Forest, while to the right are the Hương Mountain and Hàm Rồng Mountain.

Through the ebb and flow of time, the Lam Kinh Special National Relic still radiates the grandeur of a once mighty imperial court. Designed in the shape of the character “Vương” - 王 , the site stretches 314 meters in length and 254 meters in width, with its walls—thick and arched at one meter— The fortress walls, 1 meter thick and in the form of an arch, enclose the various structures within the site, including prominent landmarks such as the Ngọc River, Bạch Bridge, the Ancient Well, the Ngọ Gate (also known as Nghi Gate), the Dragon Courtyard, the Main Hall, and the Mausoleum complex.

Beyond its architectural marvels, the Lam Kinh Relic site houses a wealth of priceless historical artifacts, including the Vĩnh Lăng Stele - Lam Sơn Vĩnh Lăng Bi, the Stele of Empress Dowager Ngô Thị Ngọc Dao - Khôn Nguyên Chí Đức Chi Lăng, the Stele of King Lê Thánh Tông - Đại Việt Lam Sơn Chiêu Lăng Stele, and the Stele of King Lê Hiến Tông - Đại Việt Lam Sơn Dụ Lăng Stele.

The Lam Kinh Special National Relic is considered a precious gem of Thanh land, with immense value in both architecture and history, vividly portraying the prosperous and glorious era of the Later Lê Dynasty. Visitors to the Lam Kinh Special National Relic not only have the opportunity to admire ancient architectural structures, explore tombs and temples, but also to immerse themselves in the serene, refreshing atmosphere of the surrounding natural landscape. Every perspective reveals a harmonious beauty between humanity and nature, transporting visitors back to the glorious history of the nation.

With its immense scale and profound historical significance, along with a system of well-preserved and restored historical relics, in September 2013, the Lam Kinh Historical Relic Site was recognized as a Special National Relic.
