Bến En National Park stretches across the districts of Như Thanh and Như Xuân, located approximately 45 kilometers southwest of Thanh Hóa City. Established in 1992, the park covers an area of around 15,000 hectares and is home to a pristine forest with a remarkably diverse and rich ecosystem of flora and fauna. Surrounded by the Sông Mực Reservoir, which spans over 4,000 hectares, the park’s tranquil, emerald waters serve as a natural embrace, enveloping the heart of Bến En National Park.

Formed by four streams and the Mực River, Bến En Lake, which lies within Bến En National Park, covers an area of 4,000 hectares, with its waters remaining emerald green year-round. Surrounding the lake is an untouched natural landscape, featuring 21 islands of various sizes that enhance its poetic and majestic beauty. The local legends, including the captivating tale of the squid turning to stone, add to the charm of the area. This body of water, once considered a precious gift from nature, creates a serene and ideal environment for relaxation and exploration.

Bến En National Park is home to over 1,000 species of animals and plants, including a variety of rare species listed in the Vietnam Red Book, such as elephants, wild oxen, bears, clouded leopards, red-faced monkeys, and silvered langurs. This diverse and rich ecosystem attracts numerous scientists and nature-loving tourists who are eager to explore and learn about the natural world.

Bến En National Park is an ideal destination for outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, catching rock crabs, or grilling fish by the lakeside. Visitors can also explore the rich cultural heritage of the Thai and Muong ethnic groups through their traditional festivals and unique customs. Additionally, historical and cultural landmarks such as Phu Na Temple, Khe Rong, and Phu Sung are deeply connected to the heroic stories of Thanh Hóa's land.
Visiting the villages of the Thai and Muong ethnic groups, tourists will have the opportunity to enjoy traditional rice wine and local specialties that carry the flavors of the mountains, while also experiencing the warm hospitality and unique cultural traits of the local people.

All the wonderful elements of nature, people, and culture have come together to create a unique and distinct Bến En. In 2015, Bến En National Park was designated a provincial heritage site, and in 2019, it was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as a provincial tourism area. This is not only an ideal destination for relaxation but also a place where every visitor can cherish unforgettable memories.
